Steinmetz Photography can help you out with all your needs.
Here at Steinmetz, we have been one of the top studios in model photography in Western Mass, Northern Connecticut, Boston, Rhode Island, and also servicing some New York City agencies as well.
One of the most important aspects we like to try to highlight on is that fresh, new look feel. We like to keep it unique, while still showcasing your own personalities and styles.
We love being able to help you add onto your portfolio or even start fresh and build a new one! We know that starting a portfolio can be intimidating and stressful, which is why we can provide both hair and make-up artists and even a stylist to help you customize photos to your liking.
We have a fully equipped salon set up within the studio to help give you that authentic “New York fashion week” photo shoot feel. We also have four private dressing areas available for you to utilize throughout your session. Our studio is also top of the line, ready to go, with all the essentials you can think of. Looking for a more natural look? We can make that happen! Or, are you more of that edgy feel, grunge type? That’s absolutely possible as well! Here at Steinmetz, we do it all.
We believe the best way to help get you started on your portfolio journey is to start with a consultation. Consultations can take place either here in the studio, or if it is more convenient for you, communicating back-and-forth using mood boards, through emails or any other sources you have to get you prepared for your upcoming shoot.
Another important part of starting a successful portfolio is in the planning. It’s not as hard as you may think. Inspiration can always be drawn from many places such as magazines, online, billboards, television ads, and even other professional models.
The most looked for photos in your portfolio will be the amazing headshots. We always like to shoot head shots with every outfit you wear, and we will also like to use different types of lighting, both hard light, to give you different sculptured looks, and soft light, which can be a lot more flattering and easier on the eyes. Most of the modeling agencies you will find out there, if not all of them, will always ask for not only your glamour shots, but the simple, make-up free and clean faced looks as well. These are known as Polaroids. They are always looking to see your natural structures and features, without the enhancement of a contoured cheek bone.
One of many lighting techniques that we often use is called clamshell lighting. This technique involves a beauty dish, kick lights for your hair, and a reflector so we can draw the attention to your eyes. This is one of the most used lighting techniques for beauty photographers in the fashion world.
Your headshots can not only be used in your modeling portfolio, but also to promote your acting abilities if you choose to do so.
Along with the headshots, we also make sure you have a wide variety of three quarter length, and full body shots, so picking the right outfit is a must. A good thing to remember when picking out your outfits is to think about what exactly full length shots entail. This means making sure you are not only matching your tops to your bottoms, but also matching your shoes and any other accessories. Accessories are definitely not something to shy away from. They can not only enhance your photos, but they also give you something to keep your hands occupied and create a natural look during the photography session.
Don’t forget to be versatile when you’re picking your outfit. We want to not only try to give you the look you’re going for, but also make sure to showcase what the agencies will look for. This includes many different full length shots that show off your body frame. A good way to showcase your figure is a swimsuit. Don’t forget, heels with a swimsuit are always the way to go. Heels always give your legs that needed shape. You also want to have a business and a casual look as well. This could consist of skinny jeans and clean fitted top.
Your portfolio should consist of somewhere between six and 20 shots, however if you’re just starting out, 6 to 10 would be a good beginning. Less is better!
When shooting we will encourage you to move whether it be jumping, or even dancing, to give a more real look so it’s not just one stagnant pose after another. Your poses should always be interesting and expressive to your personality, as to keep the agencies always wanting more.
